Debute Album Be sure to be at Bimini's Oyster Bar this Thursday at 8:00 in High Point, NC to celebrate the Last Resort Band’s long awaited debut CD Soul Twang. The Last Resort Band will be performing their new CD track-by-track live for a packed house in the restaurant where it all began just over a year ago.
The CD—much like a live performance—is full of musical variety. It begins with a rendition of Lloyd Williams’ “Shama Lama Ding Dong” and Garnet Mimms’s “A Quiet Place”. But just when you think you’ve bought an oldies record, you will hear current releases like “Boondocks” by Little Big Town and “How Long” by the Eagles. In addition to timeless favorites like Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and The Beatles’, “Saw Her Standing There”, you’ll hear an acoustic version of the Allman Brothers’ “Sweet Melissa”. However, these and other classics like “Paperback Writer.” by the Beatles, take on a brand new sound when performed by The Last Resort’s innovative bluegrass instrumentation. Their fusion of old soul, rock n’ roll, and bluegrass produce fresh and exciting renditions of anything from Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” to Bruce Hornsby’s “The Valley Road.” For those who want to hear bluegrass in its more traditional form, “Take This Hammer” is sure to please. But if you like your grass on steroids, you’ll be glad to know the boys have included New Grass Revival’s versions of “White Freightliner Blues” and “Get in the Wind” on the project.
But before the Last Resort Band takes the stage, the crowd will be entertained by an area favorite band called the Cruisers. The Cruisers have reformed with the original members and will be re-introducing themselves to area music lovers.
After the Cruisers have played and the Last Resort Band has performed their debut CD, the crowd will be treated to an all out jam session. The boys in the band have invited some of the finest pickers in the area to join them for this special event. You’ll see well known musicians like Rex McGee, John Boulding, Bert Sprye, Arnie Solomon, Danny Pierce, and Dustin “the wind” Jennings among others.
Come early and plan to stay late. This will be one for the books! |
